Proyecto Las Compuertas is the Durigutti brothers' project to protect the heritage vineyards of Las Compuertas, the coolest corner of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Since 2007 they have restored 34 hectares of historic vines, named Finca Victoria after their mother.

Malbec 1914 comes from the clay soils typical of Las Compuertas and is named after the year the vineyard was planted: more than 100 years of life in a bottle.

Tasting notes

A structured, complex Malbec with a violet colour. Aromas of ripe black fruit with subtle herbs and the spices typical of the region. Intense and balanced on the palate, with refreshing acidity and a long finish of blueberries and blackberries.

Winemaking

Vineyard at 1,050 m on deep clay loam, planted in 1914 and organically farmed. Hand-picked and optically sorted, fermented with native yeasts in uncoated concrete eggs, then malolactic fermentation and 6 months of aging in a 2,000-litre oak foudre, followed by 13 months in concrete eggs. Alcohol 13.5%. Only 2,480 bottles. Serve at 15–18 °C. Winemakers Héctor and Pablo Durigutti.
