Proyecto Las Compuertas Malbec 5 Suelos
Proyecto Las Compuertas is the Durigutti brothers' project to protect the heritage vineyards of Las Compuertas, the coolest corner of Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Since 2007 they have restored 34 hectares of historic vines, named Finca Victoria after their mother.
Malbec 5 Suelos is a blend of five plots on five different soils, from vines planted in 1910, 1914, 1928 and 1994: a portrait of the whole Las Compuertas terroir in one bottle.
Tasting notes
An elegant, complex nose of violets and candied strawberries with a light herbal touch. Medium-bodied, with very fine tannins and fresh, balanced acidity; blackberries and ripe strawberries lead into a long finish.
Winemaking
Five plots at Finca Victoria on deep clay loam, silty loam, stony loam, sandy loam and river-stone soils, organically farmed. Hand-picked and optically sorted, fermented with native yeasts in uncoated concrete eggs, followed by malolactic fermentation and 8 months of aging in the eggs. Alcohol 13%. 14,670 bottles. Serve at 15–18 °C. Winemakers Héctor and Pablo Durigutti.
